A Group for Women who Struggle with

Food and Body Image

Facilitated by: Lesli Jacobs

In Recovery today, more than ever, women struggle with food, eating and their bodies. In addition to the pressure from society, family and partner to look a certain way, different internal and unconscious factors play a role in the frustrating and unhealthy patterns we stay stuck in. Through understanding these internal forces more deeply and building resiliency to the external factors, we can begin to enjoy our bodies, our food and ourselves again.

In this program you will learn:

§ A About what factors most contribute to the areas where you are stuck and frustrated and how to heal them

How to reconnect with and develop more compassion for yourself
How to enjoy food and eating in healthy ways
How to achieve lasting change in your relationship to food and your body
§ How to experience internal peace and satisfaction instead of
an internal struggle

I am in Hopkinsville so if you get something going let me know. We had a short lived

group here. They were suppose to start back in September but I have not heard

anything from anyone. Greenville is not too far away and I might could make it. I do

go to Nashville some for Dr Frye's coaching for victory groups but not as often as

I would like to.

to any groups since my surg. a year ago becauce there have not been any closer
than Nashville. I can't afford to with the gas prices and the time it takes. I
would love to find a support group close to home!

Frankie!!!

Thanks for replying. I'd be all for that. I know there are others in the area, who didn't necessarily have their surg done at CMC, but it would still round out the group. (forgive the pun) Kathleen was saying their will be training sessions for group leadership in Nov sometime. I'm not opposed to leading, but I'm still preop. If CMC is right it'll probably be a long time before I even have a surg date. I mean, it looks like CMC would prefer someone postop to lead a group. You'll be post by then, if you're feeling up to it that would be great!

I know you're excited about having a surg date. Who is your surgeon? I was very impressed with CMC at their seminar. I went to two other hospitals and of the three CMC had by far the most developed program. They seem to have made every accomodation available to us to receive the best pre and postop care. I know you're going to do great!

I was wondering if anyone would know about a surgeon that specializes

you have had??
Give me some suggestions cause i need to get rid off this extra skin

Hi Kathleen,

I'm near Dunmor Ky. about 80 miles from Nahville. I definitely want in a live group, so I do plan on attending the ones in Nashville at some point every month. Gas prices being what they are once a month is the most feasible. I'm still preop, but should be able to turn in my paper work this week sometime. I don't know any groups in this area. I think there used to be one in Lewisburg, but she moved away.

Thanks for checking for me.

Hi Lee,
Let me know where you are as I am the coordinator of the groups for
Centennial Hospital and maybe I can find you a group. While the on-
line group is a great idea, a face to face group is wonderful too.
If you or anyone else is interested we can assist you in setting up
a group in your area. We are planning a leadership training class on
Nov 11th and we will assist you in making contacts in your area. We
are hoping to add several more groups around this area as we at
Centennial believe they are such an important part of your recovery.

Lee Thompson <lakeratlee@...

Hi, Snow,

I don't know any groups in your area, but another option you might want to think about is an online support group. I stumbled across one of the best and most comprehensive, "Living After Weight Loss Surg" (LAWLS). They have an extensive library of information and for a small annual subscription you gain access to their private message board called the "Neighborhood". There are people posting in all levels of the process, from those who had their wls 20 yrs ago to those that had it last week and preops like me. Their wealth of information and support is incredible! The friendships are tremendous!

There are no support groups in my area. I'm about 80 miles out, so I'm planning on attending CMC's support once a month and supplementing daily with them. If you want to check them out their website is http://www.lawls.com . Good luck to you and keep us posted.

Good Sat. Morning to All,
I am in need of a local support group ........ southern Marshall
County.I was attending a very small group in Pulaski, Tn but have not
heard from them in over 2 months! Is there still a group there? If not
doesnt anyone know of one in that area. I am not able to travel too far
from home as I am a caretaker of a failing mom. It would need to be near
Lewisburg, Pulaski, or Fayetteville Tn. Columbia is abit far and the
Nashville area out of the question @ the present time.
While I think I have done great WLS 12/14/05 with a weight loss of 118#
I like the idea of having someone to talk to; that not only understands
the issues but also understands the self-pats on the back that we all
need to be giving ourselves.
Thanks for listening

Re: [CMC-WLS] Insurance approval

2007-07-27 14:11:48

Judy,

Thanks for the information. I used to do benefits but I don't have to any more so I wasn't even aware when they started to have the meetings to discuss the new plans. I used to be in on those meetings but we have a benefits coordinator now. The thing that pisses me off the most is that they incorporated a new medical insurance option. It's a high deductible plan (2500) plus a health insurance savings account. We have to pay for everything out of pocket with that option which is not a benefit for me. I go to the doctor 4 times a year and I have my well woman's check once a year so this high deductible plan wouldn't help me. Even if it did, it still won't pay for the operation. With the health savings account (hsa) we can have so much directly deposited into that account each pay period for future use however there is a $4.25 monthly fee for this service. The company contributes $1000 a year but not in one big lump; they'll deposit something like 37.50 per pay
period. The money does roll over though, it's not like those spending accounts or whatever they're called where you lose it if you don't use it. The premium for this plan is $37.50 a month. It's not as cheap as they'd have us to believe. We have to pay for everything and then itemize at the end of the tax year. It's just not worth it.

So I have started another diet and will try to work with that until I can do better. Thanks for you offer of help though and congratulations on your surgery!

Hello
I had wls on 8-15 by Dr Dyer and am doing wonderfully! But the process
of approval took many turns and twists and ups and downs. I have been
trying to get approved for over 3 years.
Last year before my company decided on an insurance plan for our
company I went to my VP and ask that WLS be an added benefit. She was
very supportive and took to Administration. After several phone calls
and questions the benefit was added this year with several
requirements.
After the first of the year it was not personnally a good time until
about March. I then begin seeking approval while working with Tonya at
CMC and Dr Dyer's office. After going being denied and redenied I went
to Human Resources who really helped me and eventually went to our CEO
for help. (I can get very determined) Approvals happened and so did
Surgery! I am now on the losing side. If I can help you please feel
free to email me directly and I can give you more ideas and
suggestions.
Just another thought this is about the time of year that companies
began deciding on Insurance for next year and if you are going to make
this kind of move now is the time. Timing was a huge factor for me.

Re: [CMC-WLS] Kind of stressed-need to vent

2007-07-26 09:01:10

Hi Bonita...it has been a long time since I changed jobs but I do remember how

stressful that can be. I am self employed and do know both the good and the

bad about that. If I don't produce I don't get paid, I don't have any benefits so

have to pay my own health insurance, retirement and taxes. It took me several

years to build a clientele (I am an accountant) and sometimes thought I would

have to get another job to hold on. The good side is I set my own hours, if I need

to be off from work then I don't have to ask my boss, if I work longer and harder then

I make more money, if I have a family crisis I can leave and go etc.

I also do work for a lot of realtors and know that the ones that care about their

clients are the ones that make the most money. The lady that I deal with is

in her 70's now and I have been a loyal client for over 30 years. She has

always looked out for my best interest and made me feel safe when I made a purchase.

Hope this helps some.

Wanda

Re: Kind of stressed-need to vent

2007-07-26 05:40:04

Thanks Wanda! I would/can be one of those that truly cares about a
client's best interests. The problem is...I just need some clients to
care about. LOL! I do in fact have some showings scheduled on Sat.
with a client to show him some houses, so hopefully that will be my
start. (Hooray!) I remember when I managed the real estate office
and clients would call in frustrated because they hadn't been able to
get in touch with their realtor for days and I'd feel so helpless.
All I could do would be to pass the message along. I intend to be a
realtor that's in touch with my clients. A few years ago dh and I
opened/owned a scrapbook retail store and we always tried to treat
our customers as we would want to be treated. And so many people
would be impressed because we would remmember their names pretty
early on. But that stuff is important to most people. Making them
feel that you want their business. And our frequent customers we
sometimes even knew their kids names. And our real frequent customers
would sometimes become our employees. LOL!
Thanks for your perspective on it. I appreciate it. Dh says I'm not
giving up this soon. I just get a little down sometimes as I'm
dealing with all of these new emotions related to surgery and a whole
new career enviroment. Guess I've just got to pull up my boot straps
and dig deeper and trudge on through.
Have a good one!
Bonita

Kind of stressed-need to vent

2007-07-25 19:52:21

Hi all!
I had wls on 7/11/06 - no ptoblems with surgery, or anything like
that. (Thank gooness! No regrets!) However, I've realized that I
untentionally set myself up by deciding to make a major career change
within just a few weeks of my surgery. I had managed a real estate
office for a couple of years and decided in Dec to take the real
estate course and try for my license. Started the course the first of
Jan, finished the end of Feb., took the test the first of March and
got my license. However, I stayed on in my job of managing the office
until the end of April. However, at that time I felt it was time for
me to spread my wings and give it a try. I signed on to another ofc
as an agent there and basically piddled away 2 months with no action,
whatsoever. Then the day before surgery moved my license to another
office which is up and coming with more agents, more free training,
etc., just a better overall fit for me. So two wks after surgery I
hit the ground running trying to get some action going. However, I'm
really starting to doubt my decision to even try to sell real
estate. I enjoy meeting/helping people etc it's just that right now,
I'm basically making cold calls and beginning to feel like a
telemarketer. I understand this is a business that you have to build
up your client base over time, but gosh I've put so much $ into it so
far and not made a dime since the end of April (when I left my steady
income job as ofc manager). I'm just really doubting is it ever
really going to bring an income into our family? I'm just feeling a
little panicky right now and want to run out and find the first job I
can to help out financially and to feel like I've accomplished
something. So I had a realization moment last week that I probably
didn't time all of this correctly with my surgery, etc. One thing
about it though is that I haven't wanted to eat for comfort during
this stressful time unlike past times! LOL!!! Dh is very supportive
and says just to hold on, it will happen, but gosh, I'm just
beginning to wonder. Thanks for any insight anyone might can offer
to help me learn to take a deep breath and continue on in this
process. Sorry for the long post.
Bonita

HELP!!

2007-07-25 18:48:01

I just found out from our benefits coordinator that neither one of our insurance plans will pay for the surgery. How can I get this done? I find it to be completely crazy that I'm spending all this money each year for insurance coverage that won't cover me when I need it the most. Does anyone have any ideas or help that they can offer? I don't really feel all that comfortable asking our BC to advocate for me but if that's what I have to do then that's what I have to do. We can't change anything in our insurance package August 2007.

Need to find an General Internist for my PCP

2007-07-24 21:51:23

Trying to find an General Internist at Vanderbilt that is familiar
with Bariatric Patients. I had my surgery 03/14/2003; I am having some
stomach problems and problems w/dizziness. If I had a regular doctor I
could go to that was familiar w/ WLS then they could rule out if they
thought that was causing the complications. Vanderbilt gives employees
a discount so it cost less for me to see a doctor here. I tried our
Find a Doctor line and they can't tell if a doctor is familiar with
WLS patients or not. Can anyone help?
Thanks!

Re: [CMC-WLS] drinking diet colas

2007-07-24 18:45:11

I don't know about diet colas but the regular ones make me burp. No permanent effects. However if you have been able to break the habit of cola for 6 months I would keep it up. It's just another addiction to beat.

I qualify this with the fact that I have only dumped once 3 months out (my fault). I have never thrown up and eat whatever I want in small quantities.

Three years out now and at goal for a year.

Thanks for your response. It does make since that the carbonation
might cause gas. I can't imagine that it could cause permanent
enlargement of the stomach, but I wanted to be sure. Maybe someone
out there has tried them.
Meanwhile, best of luck to you and your surgery. Do you have it

I'm sure someone else would be able to explain it better than me, but I think it causes gas to form in the pouch and could cause you a lot of discomfort. I'm still preop so I'm just going by everything I've read. I've not read where it will cause any permanent enlargement, just pain.

Good luck with your post op recovery.

because the crust is peanut butter cookie dough so I need to try and make it

so thats a good thing...now if I can find a sugar free chocolate that tastes
good for the topping....

Nutrional Yeast

2007-07-20 05:52:07

I am a vegitarian, soon to quit due to the surgery, Nutritional yeast has
lots of protien and B vitamines. It can be mixed in any thing but it expands
so let it sit say overnight in the fride in milk or some thing. It does have
a taste but not a strong one, I don't find it unpleasent and my daughter
eats it in her morning shake along with OJ and a bannanna and a raw egg.
Twin labs is the cheapest place I have found to get it at $7 usa for a pound
and it lasts a long time. I will mix it into soups were other flovors will
mask the taste. Most of you in a major city can go to a health grocery store
and get it, I have to order EVERYTHING on line! I spend WAY too much time
online!
I am going back to meat for the protien, I get enough now but after I will
need the consintrated protien and the swelling of rice and dry beans won't
hurt me. But there are little tricks. I am going to drink soy milk, I don't
tolerate cow juice well any way, and soy has tons of protien in it.
There are lots of ways to get the protien you need and not have to choke
down tons of meat and meat broth. 2 tablespoons is a serving and has 6 gm of
protien and more than 100% rda for the B group (one less pill to take??).
Tons of trace stuff too. Do not confuse it with bread yeast.

Surgery is a go - Jan. 27

2007-07-19 09:02:05

Hi All
Well I had all my pre-op tests today. Bloodwork,
Upper GI and chest xrays - pre-op physical EKG. My
PCP gave the ok. My broncitis and sinusitis are gone
and she gave me a great pep talk and reminded me of
why I'm doing this. So as long as there are no
problems with the upper GI here I come 10 days away.
Anxiety is very much still there - my husband is
encouraging me to take it particularly with getting so
close. Well it is late and I have to work tomorrow so
just wanted to let everyone know the good news.
Everyone have a good night.

called me, I was having one of those moments. Hearing your voice and
teasing me about being a 'loser' just came at the right time!!!! You
are special and I hope to get to meet you one day soon. I'll be in

This is a handy little tool! I also have gotten lots of mileage from
a little "handy chopper" < $10 . I grind pills to add to my protien
shakes, and also make cream soups out of canned soups and
vegetables. Be sure to follow your doctor and dietician's
guidelines. The Silver Bullet is is basically the same type of
appliance as this "Majic Bullet".

Find the local thrift stores in your area and use them.
My local support group also had a clothing swap at each meeting, ( 2 weeks apart ), and that was a life saver in the beginning.
I hope this has given some of you ideas, and don't forget the clearence sales. I found I lost about a size with every 10 pounds.................I lost 170 pounds.............You can do the math...

Thank you all for the many good wishes, prayers and love that has
been given to me in reference to my surgery date of March 7th. From
the bottom of my heart I tell you that I never could do this without
your love and support. You have been so gernerous in sharing your
experience, strength and hope on such a gut level. You havw trusted
all of us as a family with some of your most personal and sometimes
the most humorus issues. I can honestly say that you have taught me
more about my strengths and weaknesses and yet in spite of my
character defects, you have showed me that I can learn to love
myself while I continue to work on myself. I just hope that I can
give back some of what was so freely given to me by all of you.

2007-07-16 12:06:01

Hey Tina,
At first and 298 Oct. 2003 I didn't feel I'd ever be healthy or be
skinny ever again. I was at my lowest and feeling so ugly and
worthless. I was put on my husband's insurance the following
January and promptly started doing research again on having this
surgery. Seemed after I had made the decision things just went so
smoothly and I knew it was meant to be. Those goals me might place
too low but I feel with the grace of God we can do all we are meant
too and be healthy also.
I was also glad they picked me as one of the moderator's now I need
some training...LOL!!! Yep and getting those dang pic's loaded
also...LOL!!!
Gosh I am a sweet junkie so I had to find something to make my old
baking recipes fly for me now! I plan on doing some this week as I
continue to pack and prepare for our move back home to Texas! Got
to keep my strength up..right?!
Oh yeah, just wanted to thank you so much for leaving your back door
open cause it made your cold weather come down to freeze me out here
in ol' Alabama..LOL!!! Seriously its freezing here and will be down
in the lower teens tonight! And to think I passed up those nice
electric blankets the other day and they are all gone now. Boohoo!!!

Re: [CMC-WLS] How Fast?

2007-07-15 19:46:26

It sounds very normal to me. I quit weighing myself because my weight loss was

so odd. I was always very surprised at how much I had lost when I got to the doctors

office. When I was weighing myself at home all the time then I second guessed myself and what I was doing. The only thing I weighed during the first 6 months was

my food. Hang in there and keep it up.

Wanda

Re: How Fast?

2007-07-15 16:57:09

Hello, 15 lbs. the first 9 days...that's great. In response to your
concern about what is 'normal' weightloss, I guess I would say we are
all different. I remember getting on the scale and I was the same
weight as the day before. Then in a day or two, I thought I will weigh
myself and I am down 2-3 lbs. But, I must admit that I've NEVER
been 'NORMAL' : ))) I'm sure others who've had surgery longer than I
have will respond. Everyone is always so helpful and kind on this site.
Be patient....follow your doctor's instructions, eat your protein and
BE HAPPY. Plus, keep posting!

2007-07-15 01:48:38

Jill

Sorry to hear about your stretching again... I was lucky.. I only had to have mine 1 time. Congratulations on being such a loser.. its such a wonderful feeling. Sometimes losing is really winning.

As for the "nothing sounds good" phase. I am almost 5 years out and there are still times when I know I need to eat and nothing sounds good. Sometimes you have to force yourself to get your protein. Once upon a time food was my drug of choice and now there are a lot of times.. and I never thought I would find myself saying this but.. I am sick of eating. Try something new. your tastes change after surgery. and something that before surgery you didn't care for you may like now. I know I am like that. I hope this helps.

Thanks lots...seriously though I have been at the 298 mark before I
lost a little while waiting for my appointment with the surgeon.
Actually the fosterkids wore it off of me...LOL!!! You'll be there
before you know it! Just remember that when those plateau's hit you
to up that protein and drink more water. It does work!! Peach on
the post-op board introduced me to the protein train and I live it
now. Happy dance...I did it all around my husband when he came
home!!! Silly goose just laughed and asked what I was on! I was on
a protein high, of course!

Hi Janie,

It sounds like you are on the right track. Don't be too hard on yourself. It is such a good deal that people are required this 6 month monitored program before surgery. I wish I had that structure and discipline before my own WLS.

The surgery is only a tool. Other life style modifications have to be made to be successful.

You are on the right track. Keep up the good work!

How Fast?

2007-07-13 20:39:09

Hi. I am 2 1/2 weeks post op Roux en Y. I lost 15# the first 9 days,
then my weight loss has come down to a crawl. I am beginning to get
nervous. I lose about 1 pound about every 2nd-3rd day. Is this normal?

3rd Scoping/Stretching on Friday

2007-07-13 17:15:49

Hello Everyone....I, too, agree that it's been quiet regarding
postings. Maybe everyone's trying to keep cool. We've had a
beautiful weekend in Illinois. We could actually have the windows
open and it's pleasant. We went to a small town festival last night
to see T. Graham Brown perform...that'll date me a little. He was
great and his band was fabulous!
I am looking forward to Friday as I'll have another dialation
procedure. As I've said this is my 3rd one and I can't wait!!!!
It's been a struggle to get my protein in and am back to liquids and
the blender is my best friend.
I was wondering if anyone's experienced the problem of nothing
tasting good...and I mean nothing! I had my surgery on 6/6/06 and
now I've lost around 45 lbs. I am 'hitting' the stores for the sales
as I've gone done almost 3 sizes and I REFUSE to wear baggy clothes
to work. When I buy something smaller, Jim will say, that's starting
to look baggy. I think he's just liking the hugs he gets after he
makes that comment!!!!
Saturday, I visited a store named "Catherine's" which is strictly
1X and above. Everything there was tooooo biggggg....was I excited
or what!!! I wanted to run out of there clicking my heals with total
joy! Then our grandaughters, Madison (4) and Brooke (8) are spending
the weekend with us. The first thing they said when they saw me
was...you're looking so healthy, Grammie!!!!!! AND I silently
said...thank you, Dr. Houston and his group.
I hope everyone is doing well and ohhhh yesssss, it's GREAT to be a
LOSER! I wish you a good day! Thanks to everyone who has encouraged
me along my weightloss journey. I will forever remain grateful.

never tasted so good when I was 10 days out. I had cream of

I still havn't had the "guts" to buy a scale.... but I go into the

yesterday, I used my friends scale and she says it is acurate...
I was 380, store said 227 and friends scale calls it 242...
I'll see my DR tomorrow and will find out the exact weight.
Anyways.. I am not complaining (anymore).

Re: Spouse Eating and Pissed off!

2007-07-11 18:36:01

group site.
I had my surgery 1 1/2 weeks ago. I am still on the cursed liquids and
meanwhile my wife and whoever else comes over get to eat whatever they
want...This makes me mad. No amout of...hey your trying to lose weight
convinces me that is it ok. I don't know what I expect I know they
have to eat...but it still makes me REALLY MAD! Anyone else have this
issue and how did you get over it without making your spouse's life a
living hell!?!?!?
I kind of understand your frustration as I'm 4 wks out today. My dh had
voluntarily that my surgery would be a healthy change for the whole
family in that everybody needed to be eating more health conscious,
etc., vowing to give up soft drinks, etc (all his idea!) Well, about 10
days ago we were traveling for the weekend. He and dd ran into Wal-
Mart to pick up a few things and what did they come back with but
Snickers, 3 Musketeers, Peanut M & M's! When he started to take them
out of the bag he said aw he wouldn't do that to me. I told him it
didn't bother me that they were eating them in front of me, it just
bothered me that he'd made this big speech about health eatings, blah,
blah, blah and then chocolate candy bars! He said well he hadn't had
anything like that all week long! LOL! And I said well I haven't had
anything like that for 4 wks or more! LOL!! We were really just
picking at each other but still I was being sincere in my point that he
wasn't trying very hard. So back to the no more soft drinks
line...he'd said as soon as what was in the house was gone, that was
it! Well, last weekend he had to run get gas for the mower at a gas
station and guess what jumped in the truck with him? Two Diet Mountain
Dews! Amazing, isn't it? Again, we're really just picking on each
other. However, a co-worker commented to him that I was going to be
getting skinny and smaller and smaller (I'm only 5'1" and dh is 6'2")
and he'd just start to look bigger and bigger! So I imagine as I
really start to show more and more of a loss he'll get his rear in
gear!!! But I have learned if it bothers me when others are eating,
especially things I like, etc., then I just go to another room and let
them eat w/out me being there. A hard adjustment, but you're not so
tortured that way either. Good luck on working through this
challenge. I've also learned that if you can make if past that first 5-
10 minutes any cravings I might have for whatever "they're" eating,
quickly passes.

Re: [Gastric_Bypass_Family] 6 days out and questions

2007-07-11 16:30:23

Hi Shawna,
Glad to hear your doing well. I ate strained potatoe soup, sf pudding and
jello, sf popsicles, sf apple sauce. I was told anything I could take through
a straw opening I could eat. Of course I didn't eat it through the straw,
that's just how big my stoma is...lol. Oh and I ate yogurt without fruit,
just have to watch the sugar content. I ate the Light Giant Eagle brand, but
not sure you have those stores where you are. Hope this helps and good luck.

Spouse Eating and Pissed off!

2007-07-10 13:33:00

ok this is the first time that I have posted on a support group site.

Re: [CMC-WLS] Spouse Eating and Pissed off!

2007-07-10 12:16:22

I live alone so have not had to endure that except the first week when I was staying

with my sister. She was cooking big meals and everyone was eating but me. I

tried to sit at the table and drink my isopure but found it best to just go lay down

until they were finished. The fact is though that people will be eating things that

we can't have and we just have to figure out a way to accept and eat what we can have. Good luck to you, welcome to the board and keep posting. Welcome

to the losing side.

To all my family,
Just a short note to let you know that I have received a date for my
Gastric Bypass Surgery it will be March 7, 2005 at Morristown
Memorial sometime in the afternoon.
Before this surgery I need to have another surigical procedure
done. I must have a filter surgically inserted into my groin as a
precaution for blood clots during Bypas surgery and recovery. The
filter surgery will be on February 4, 2005 @ 9:30 a. m.
I ak that you all keep me in your thoughts and prayers and that you
envision you and God holding my hand during these times.
Thank you all so very much.
For my family on this list, I know that you will understand what I'm
about to say. I know that Uncle Ace and Uncle Gene, who have just
entered their final resting place within the last two weeks will be
rooting for me They are with the Lord now and both knew how badly I
need this surgery, hat better rooters can I have.?
Please, I ask that all of you pray that God will guide the hands
of Dr. Abkins (my surgeon and all of the surgical team that will
care for me during this time, that I will have a successful and
uneventful surgery and recovery.
Thank you all for your love and support and most of all for your
prayers.
Love,
Fran

Hair Loss and Nioxin

what brand is the vanilla cinn. That sounds very good? I have made the mistake of

buying choc protein shake from Vita Lady and they have a good taste but I am

already sick of them. I could use a change.

Re: Hair Loss and Nioxin

2007-07-05 21:27:46

Hello to All,
I have a question:
I have now started with hair loss. I am 6 1/2 months out from by-pass
surgery(Dr Dyer is my doctor and I am down 116lbs) and am wondering...
for those of you using the Nioxin products, how often do you wash your
hair; should I be washing my hair everyday and using the Nioxin
everyday? I have purchased Nioxin cleanser level 1 abd Nioxin scalp
therapy also level 1. How so I know if I am using the right level of
the stuff?
I am a avid swimmer and am at the pool at least 3 times a week... does
that fact matter?
I am no so concerned over the actual hair loss as I have been bald
while receiving chemo & radiation for breast cancer( clear 11 yr-HURRAY
for me :-} ) but would like to be doing all that I can to insure my
hair return at some point in time.
Thanks for listening and thanks for caring.
Love
Snow

Hair Loss and Nioxin

2007-07-05 18:21:01

I don't really know about the frequency for sure. I have been using it from the time I

had my surgery and I wash my hair about 3 or 4 times weekly. My hair loss was at

its worse at about 5 months and it was actually around the 8th month that I noticed it

was looking pretty good again. Now it is totally back to normal and maybe even a

little thicker than before. I still use it because I have thinning hair anyway. I also used

the coremega (omega 3 fish oil) daily. I know chlorine and any chemicals are

hard on the hair but usually that is more breakage and weak hair. Not sure this will help. I also did not color my hair during the first year after the surgery.
