My WOW moment!

2007-09-30 15:37:38

Hi Janie,
Boy, do I know what you mean about reflections in the mirror or in
windows as we're passing by a store. I, too, would try to avoid
looking at myself at all cost. In fact, even looking in the bathroom
mirror wasn't easy.
BUT....today I park in an indoor parking deck for work. I have to go
in a glass door and wait for the elevator to take me to my floor for
work. I MUST HUMBLY ADMIT I LOOOOOKKKKK AT MYSELF EVERY DAY NOW AS I
AM SEEING MYSELF CHANGING BEFORE MY VERY OWN EYES. Thanks to God for
the wonderful gift He gave Dr. Houston.
This is a repeat story but I'll tell it again. I went to get my
driver's license updated and the lady who took my picture said it was
a good one. I said..yeah, right and smiled...I haven't taken a good
picture for my driver's license since I was 16 (I am now ONLY 59)and
she handed it to me. IT REALLY WAS A GOOD PICTURE!!!!!!! Now when I
write a check and the clerk asks for my driver's license, I QUICKLY
pull it out as I am very proud to show it. I use to put my finger
over the other driver's license pics. How quickly things change.
So Janie.....this will be you talking soon. Also, about
patience....I wasn't a very patient person at all. Now this surgery
has taught me so many things and patience is certainly one of them.
One of the first 'Patience Challenge test' was to drink those
nasty...I mean wonderful protein drinks, chicken broth, sugar-free
jello, WATER when the rest of the world had REAL food : )) Patience
to use a salad plate to put my food on, patience to watch others go
back for seconds/thirds while I was chewing - chewing - chewing.
Patience to get back on the scale and have it be the same weight as I
was the last time I got on it!
Today I am soooooo proud of myself and the rest of my loser club
friends present and future. I so much enjoy reading each and every
posting.
January 13 will be here very soon and we'll be soooo happy for you.
Enjoy this time as the holidays are quickly approaching. Then it'll
be the new you, Janie! Wowwwwwwww, it'll be your turn...your day...
your special time. We'll ALL be cheering you on and believe me...we
willlllllllll. I just read about a young man from the Peoria WS
group who had surgery in March and has lost 192lbs. I am thrilled
for him and I don't even know him but I've seen his pic and he looks
great. That's amazing!
It looks like I am writing another book tonight. I am sorry for the
lengthy content but I hope I've helped you in some way.
Take good care of yourself, Janie and hang in there!
Hugs from Illinois,
Jilllllllll

I'll have it all written out. All any of you need to do is be loud and noisy!

I'll take any ideas anybody has for cheers! Let's be rowdy! Let's CELEBRATE being the LOSERS we are!

I, too, read the not so good stories. However, in my case, I had a choice... DON'T have the surgery and KNOW I'd be dead in 1-2 years. DO have the surgery, take the .05% chance of dying from it, and take the chance at having a long, healthy life. I chose life. For me the choice was clear (although still scary and not easy). I know many others don't have it laid out so cut and dry for them.

special training to be a moderator or can anyone who needs a group but
can't find one to attend start one? I live in Lawrenceburg and there
are a few groups nearby but they are on nights I am in class or over an

Re: [CMC-WLS] WOW moment!

2007-09-28 04:01:07

I had lost over 130lbs before people stopped asking me, "Did you change your hair?" I wanted to shake them!

Last Christmas I was standing in the entrance area at Wal-mart waiting for my hubby to bring the van around. I caught sight of a woman in the window and thought to myself, "I wonder how long it will be until I'm as thin as her?" I turned around to get a good look at her, but there was no one there. I turned back to the window and there she was again. It took me several moments to realize that the woman who's figure I was admiring was me! That was the turning point for me to learn to recognize the new outward ME for what and who I am.

It's difficult for me to get to the Nashville meetings on week nights, so no, I probably won't be there.

Yes, Cathy it was pretty neat! Then I've seen other people who I've
not seen for a good while (6 months or so) and they haven't made any
comment (and don't have a clue that I had surgery). I was either
hiding my weight real well or they're like me and just don't have an
eye for noticing things like that. My dh is great about noticing
little changes, etc but for me, I must be blind as it takes big, huge
obvious changes for me to take notice.
But at least one person noticed and wasn't sure if I was me! (Does

In response to measuring body fat, I am sending this website to you.
I hope it'll answer your question. I know when I went to get weighed
at Dr. Houston's office, the girls do some figuring and come up with

amount they told me but the good news is I remember them telling
me : ))) so that's a plus! You might want to check this site out.

Eating while traveling and being guests

2007-09-22 12:02:17

Cathy S.: To address your questions about traveling, eating etc.,
I'll be as honest as I can....
It has been very difficult for me to go to dinner with friends/family
as I get caught up in the conversations at the table and forget to
chew chew chew. I have to really pay attention to what I am doing
and Jim will be there to remind me by saying small pieces and
chew!!!! He's so kind and caring. I must admit it's a lot better now
then it was at first. I wasn't very 'sweet' as I felt I needed to
just stay home and get thru this on my own. I am a very sociable
person and we love to have company....plus the world revolves on
the 'dreaded food'. I remember all that I went thru and keep focused
on MY MISSION. My friend asked prior to our trip as to what I wanted
so she could shop for me. Paulette is very thoughtful and a
wonderful friend since grade school....many moons ago!
We even went to dinner Sat. evening with our friends and their car
club friends. I just made some good choices, ate slow, paid
attention, stopped when I felt full. I felt GREAT to be in CONTROL!
For ONLY the past 58 yrs. I was never one to have self-control and
was the president of procrastinators anonymous as I did what I wanted
to. My friend is into exercise and she gave me some good exercise
tips. She kept saying how proud she was of me. I was thrilled to get
the compliments. Both Paulette and Frank kept commenting on how much
younger I looked. Compliments don't come easy to Frank. I always
give out hugs for each and every compliment.
For those who just had surgery or close to it....I remember the
doctor here in Peoria saying you'll feel like the alcoholic who is
recovering and that is absolutely so very true. I was crabby and I
had to make many apologies for not being me. As the alcoholic has
their liquor taken away, we have our food intake changed
drastically. YIKES, but you will make it thru this and you will be
sooooooo happy with what you've accomplished and soooooo proud of
yourself.
Got to go as I am writing a book again : ) I don't want you to get
bored.
Hugs to all,

RE: [CMC-WLS] Memorials on Obesityhelp.com

2007-09-21 11:15:52

Hi Janie,

I imagine everyone has a fear of what could happen going into this. I know I did. I know a man that his wife died after fighting infection for 9 months after having gastric bypass surgery. He had the surgery done hisself a couple of years later and had complications also. Now he says he would still do it again for the change it has made in his life. That is what helped me make my decision. I also knew my health was going to pot if I didn't do something. I have read about several who had complications but say they would still do it again for the life change. I just had my surgery Oct. 25 and I pretty well breezed through it. I have a lot of confidence in these doctors. If in doubt pray about it and several on this site will pray for you also. Going to the patient testomonials on Centennials web site and the stories i have heard on this forum really encouraged me. Good luck on this and your schooling.

Re: Memorials on Obesityhelp.com

Hey Janie,
First off there are some people who just have that curiosity about
what "really" happened to someone after they had WLS. Do not think
of it as morbid or anything, otherwise it would not be there; it is
for others to gain more information as to what can go wrong after
WLS. Now don't get me wrong through all of the sudies that I have
done the people who pass after WLS is due to another underlying
condition that either was not caught or was ignored. You are in good
hands, thus another reason for most insurance companies to have
people do the 6 month wait thing.(not just to piss you off and see if
you will give up) So do not worry about this issue and do not let it
spook you from wanting to get the surgery; if that is the case then I
wonder if the insurance companies put the memorials onto the
site...HMMMMMM??? (LOL) Take care and just know that we are all here
for you!

Memorials on Obesityhelp.com

2007-09-20 12:03:03

Have any of you ever looked at the memorials? Read some of the
stories? It's heartbreaking and very scary. As I am contemplating
having WLS, I'm also very aware of the risk and it scares the hell out
of me! I probably should have never looked at them but it made me very
curious. I realize that there's only a .02% risk of death which is
very very minimal but it's still scary when you read the actual names
and their stories...almost as if they are talking to us from the dead.
I don't mean to sound morbid but this really bothered me. I know that
Dr. Houston said that they had only had something like 3 who had died
from complications but I don't want to be number 4. Please make me
feel better about this. Maybe I'm a little sensitive. Last night we
went to a little family reunion and we talked about my mom who has
been gone 4 yrs ago this Thanksgiving. I found out a lot of really
neat things about my mom but it made me really miss her. I've had a
very frustrating day too. After working so hard this week and weekend
studying for my online statistics course, I failed my test today. So
discouraging! But on the bright side I have another 6 weeks to bring
it up but I'm just not so sure about this class! It's really hard.
Oh well, I'm done ranting! Tomorrow is Monday! Another week!
Janie

Hey everyone, here are the directions I promised. Thanks again to
Susan Jones for getting this together. Please remember, everyone is
welcome. We have just as many pre-ops, me included, as post-ops and
some spouses are coming.
Take the Rivergate exit, number 96 , from I-65, go East for about a
mile, then turn right onto Gallatin Rd. Take another immediate right
into the shopping center, just past BBQ Cutie. We are meeting at 1pm
at the China Cottage in the center. Hope to see many there!

SQUAD!!! Uh oh, Kathy just gave me "permission!" All right! Who's with me? Anybody want to do it at the Christmas party with me? It'll be fun if a BUNCH of us are acting silly! Of course, I'm not opposed to a "one woman show," but what's the fun in that?

Oh, and we could write more verses.... what rhymes with Houston, Dyer, and Olsen??? Protein? Unjury? dietician? MWA-ha-ha-ha-haaaa!

You guys are the best!! I love all this energy that is focused on our recovery. Cathy where do you get all this energy? This cheer made my day too!.
I'm doing a seminar tomorrow and I wonder if those folks are too early in the process to share the fun of your cheer. I don't think I could do it like you can. I hope to hear it in person soon. Start assembling your squad!!

Hi all,
Well I made it back home Saturday afternoon from my surgery.
Everything went real good. I had virtually no pain while in the
hospital but that was probably cause I was hitting the pain medicine
button frequently from the time I woke up. They told me to slow down
on the button! I think they said I hit it 66 times in a couple of
hours. I found out it would trip every ten minutes so I set my watch
to alarm every ten minutes and hit it that often. My biggest problem
so far is the protein drinks. That Unjury stuff ought to be called
Drudjury! Geesh that stuff is awful. I bought some Isopure and it is
better. At least I can handle it. Any body going in for surgery I
suggest you find out which you like best and take some with you to
the hospital.
The staff at the hospital was great. They sure won't let you sleep
though! I did not get a pink gown either!
Met a nurse and a mother of a patient that had the surgery and
they were happy they had it done. Said it really changed their life
for the better. Love hearing those stories, gives me inspiration,
which I need.
Kathy was there for support. She's great. I don't know what we'd
do without her. Cathy and Jill it was great hearing from you guys.
That was really a surprise and a great lift.I know there were others
that called and remembered me in their prayers and for this I thank
all of you. It made a difference.

Re: [CMC-WLS] Just venting.....ready to move on!

2007-09-18 16:03:48

Hi Janie,

I know what you are going thru, I had to do the 6 month thing also. It can get frustrating at times, but try and take this time to try and get yourself ready for when you finally get to have the surgery. Do things like giving up carbonated beverages and switch to crystal lite or sugar free koolaid. Doing things like this and getting your body used to them will make it a whole lot easer when you have the surgery instead of having to quit them cold turkey at that time.

I promise that once you get the 6 mos. over with and have your surgery, it will feel like it didnt take long at all to get there. Do what I did also, go ahead and get things like chicken breasts cooked up and divided into 3 ounce portions and refreeze them so that when surgery is over and you can eat again it will make it a whole lot easier to stick to the diet and help you not to cheat since all you have to do is take it out of the freezer and pop it in the microwave. This has been a big help to me and takes away the wanting to nibble when I am cooking for my husband.

Hang in there and any time you need to vent do it, we have all been there and felt the frustrations that you are going thru.

I am so ready to have surgery!!!I've got two more months left on my 6
month program and I haven't done well. It seems that knowing that I
eventually hopefully will have the surgery makes me not want to work
as hard OR I'm just tired of jumping through the hoops! This is the
first Halloween in a long time that I have really struggled with
candy, specifically Snickers! I feel so guilty for not doing as well
but part of me says "screw it, I'm tired!".
Reading about how well all of you have done is so encouraging! It
gives me hope that my time is coming! I know you've all been where
I've been! There was a lady at one of the many meetings I go to said
that she just decided to have the surgery, made an appointment and set
the date for her surgery...paid out of pocket no less. I was so
jealous! I'm happy for her though, just wish I had that freedom!
I know this six months has been a good thing for me but boy is it

Hi Janie,
I can totally understand the frustration in your email....it's okay
to be anxious but this time is given to you to prepare yourself for
this very exciting change of life experience. Who is your doctor? I
had Dr. Houston and he's great!
All of us have setbacks of some sort and we need to regroup, get
focused again, dust yourself off and dig in....these next two months
will go by quickly. Think back to September 1st and now it's
November 1st!!!!
Boy, I could relate to the Snickers episode....I use to love to eat
them frozen. This year I bought 2 huge boxes of individual crackers
with peanut butter and gave them to the trick or treaters. I thought
it would be better for ALL of us : ))) and we wouldn't have any
candy around to lead me into temptation. It worked. I don't know if
the kids were happy getting crackers but it sure made my life easier.
I bet each and everyone of us who post have experienced a setback of
some sort...maybe more than one! Your big day will be here soon and
you'll be giving us an update on your surgery date....believe me,
we'll be cheering you on...and looking forward to your progress as
you begin your weightloss journey.
Hang in there, keep posting, vent again when you need to....we are
here for you. Here's a hug from Illinois.
We're off to North Carolina tomorrow to visit my dear friend from
grade school days. I am blessed to have wonderful friends. I'll be
checking in when we return.

www.healthfitnesschannel.com/FreeProteinSample.htm
You can get free samples of Hank's protein from that
website. I would definately try the samples first. On
Obesity Help, a lot of people say it is too sweet for
them. It's not for me though. Plus, it's like $79 for
two months worth, but it was definately worth it for
me. Gives me more variety, using that and then the
vanilla unjury.
Thanks for the kind words! The weight loss is starting
to slow down and I'm still 32 pounds away from Dr.
Olsen's goal and 72 lbs away from my goal, so I guess
I need to start exercising like a mad woman! if I

Congratulations Karen on your walk! Isn't it exciting
how we can do things that others do now?
Yesterday I enjoyed a day outside with the family,
taking pictures of my niece and nephew playing in the
leaves. I even played a bit myself. Before, I'd stay
inside and not do anything because I could never find
a comfortable seat or would be too hot or something
else that would make me not socialize with everyone
else.
I absolutely love what surgery has done for me. I have
a new lease on life. I'm 7 months out now. I've lost
137 pounds as of this morning. I've gone from a size
30 (or more...most everything was stretchy pants so
who knows what size I really was!) to a size 18 (size
I was in high school). I can buy clothes in alot more
places than I could before. I enjoy putting on makeup
and fixing my hair cause I have more confidence and
like looking good. I feel better. No longer do I dread
parking too far away from entrances to stores. It's
really great!
Congratulations again!

Kim, thanks for your input on the Profect. I know the people in the

lot of protein in a small amount. I will try Hank's Protein for sure

I remember reading your posting when I started my surgery process.

***Profect Protein - 2 1/2 oz vial 25 gms PROTEIN***

2007-09-14 20:55:59

Hello Everyone,
I get online with the Peoria WL group and they have been taking this
protein drink. I am wondering if any of our Nashville group has heard
of this. From what I gather, if bought in large quantities the company
will sell for a lot less. See email below that I copied from the
Peoria group. Here are the flavors Peach, Watermelon, Passion Fruit,
Orange-pineapple, Raspberry, Citrus Berry, Grapefruit Mango and Cool
Melon and I've heard they are all good...now that should be an
incentive for us!!!!!
Kathy H.: Have you heard of Profect? Your thoughts???
I guess I should consult the dieticians too. If the doctors approved
this and we could get it at a lower price and it's 25 GMS of PROTEIN in
a 2 1/2 oz vial.....I say YESSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSS.
Just wondering what others think of this idea....please let me know.
Hope everyone is having a great weekend, but aren't they all!!! It's a
beautiful fall like weekend here in central Illinois.
Take care!

Here's the decription I took from the Peoria website. You can also go
online and read about it. profect.com
PROFECT
For those of you questioning Profect............it is a juice-type
protein supplement that comes in a 2 1/2 oz. vial and has 25 gms of
protein per vial. There are 8 flavors: Peach, Watermelon, Passion
Fruit, Orange-pineapple, Raspberry, Citrus Berry, Grapefruit Mango and
Cool Melon. We have worked out a special pricing with the company. If
you purchase it online, the case of 24 is about $67.00. Through the
group it is $43 for a case of all the same flavor and $45 for a mixed
case.

Well group I am 5 years out and hardly ever post anymore. As you will see after surgery at some point you tend to move forward with your life and slowly drift away from the support group. I do want to let you all know this support group is awesome and I would not have made it without it.

Today I did something that 5 years ago I never would have been able to do. I walked 3 miles in the Nashville Heart Walk. I kept up a brisk pace the whole way through and passed my fellow co-workers. 5 years ago I could hardly make it through a store, never would have made it 3 miles. At the end of the walk I could have kept going...I was not tired, not hurting and really pumped. And the whole way through I kept thinking...it has been a hard road but well worth it. I am healthy. Now I will admit food is still a struggle, right now I am heavier than I want to be, but I am healthier then I have been in a long, long time. I tend to loose and gain the same 20 lbs over and over again. Right now I am up the 20 but plan on getting back on track to loose it again. So starting this up coming week I have a date every day with curves. Life is good. I am really living and not just sitting on the side lines watching everyone else live. I wanted to share this because I want
everyone out there that is asking themselves what have I done to myself to know...the end of the journey is great.

Re: [CMC-WLS] Digest Number 2609

2007-09-14 05:36:44

Weigh to go Kathy!!!!! I am 11 months out today. I have lost 81 lbs, need and want to lose 40-45 more. But, I feel like a different person. I think I am at least 10 years younger.

I walked the Walk From Obesity (all 2 miles of it, this year). I felt the same way after finishing. I wasn't tired, I wasn't out of breath, I wasn't huffing and puffing at any point in the walk. I kept thinking and I told my friend that was walking with me that 1 year ago, there was no way that I could have done this. I too couldn't get through a store, I couldn't hardly walk into one without my back and feet killing me. It is a hard road, but WELL worth it.

I too need to get back on track. My weight loss has slowed too much, I know everyone goes through this, but mine is my fault, I found myself eating things that I should not be eating and it stopped the weight loss. I really need to try and lose at least 10 more lbs before 12-8-06 (my year Dr. visit), this would make me in the average weight loss range, not below where I need to be at 1 year. What exactly have you done at these times to get back on track at these times to loose your weight again? I need all the suggestions that I can get.

Again, great job Kathy and everyone else out there. I don't post very often, but I do read all of them. The support of everyone is wonderful and I love reading about everyone's experiences, etc., as I too have a long weigh to go and need all the experiences that I can get.

God Bless

Just to give you a little more encouragement from Illinois, Dr. Houston
was out of the network for me. My PCP made the referral and UHC
approved my claim...THEN, 2 days AFTER my surgery UHC denied my claim.
Needless to say, I was not thrilled with this. I kept on them like
a 'dog with a bone' so that's what I would encourage you to do. Find a
PCP physician close by who has your health 1st and foremost. I am sure
one of our group members will come up with a PCP for you or do as our
DEAR TONYA recommeded. She's the best!!!!
With UHC, my PCP had to make the referral to UHC and Dr. Houston and
Centennial Medical Center would be considered IN NETWORK. But if I
recommend anything to you...it's DOCOMENT, DOCUMENT and MORE
DOCUMENTATION. Write down every person's name you speak to, their
phone number and the date. Those are the 2 questions I start my
conversation with so you have their phone number if they chose to
disconnect you. I've had that happen more than once and you have to
call their 800 number again and start all over. I am a pro at this and
my company tells people to talk to me as I've experienced just about
everything that could happen in this case.
We are here for YOU even though I am 'only' 500 miles away, I'll cheer
you on as will our head cheerleader, Cathy S.
I am off to work...take care...hope this helps. Have a great weekend
and let me know if there is anything I can do to help 'your cause'.
Hugs,
Jilllllll

This is Faye from Hopkinsville. I truly appreciate all of the support
everyone has given me so far. My endocronologist in Nashville has
referred me for the surgery! My new snag is that the surgeons are all
out of network. I have Tricare Prime as my insurance and I will need
an out of network referral from my PCP (Dr. Vinna Humphries). As you
all know, she would not even recommend me for the surgery. Tonya at
Centennial suggested that I see Dr. Clamp at the Frist Center. From
what I can tell, he is not a Tricare provider. Besides, I don't think
it is probably the best idea to change to a PCP that is 75 miles away.
Do any of the Hoptown folks know of a Bariatric Surgery friendly
doctor who accepts Tricare in this town? I believe the roadblocks I
encounter are all tests to see if I am willing to go to any lengths to
have this surgery and do what I need to do afterwards to lose the
weight and remain healthy. Life is good! Hugs...Faye

Hi Donna,
CONGRATS on getting your surgery date! WOWWWWWW, you are well on
your way to the new Donna!!!! We are all thinking of you and will
keep you in our thoughts and prayers.
I live in Illinois and went to Nashville/Dr. Houston to have my
surgery. I can't say enough about him, the hospital, and his
wonderful staff. My friend had Dr. Dyer perform her surgery and she
too was happy.
Again, I am very happy for you. I can't begin to tell you how much
better I feel...more energy, more enthusiasm and life is GREAT!!! I
laugh and say that I've amazed myself. Every time I see my little
grandaughters, they tell me...You look so healthy and thinner,
Grammie. What joys they are!
Take care and keep us posted.

Angie,
I was soooo happy to read Dr. Houston said you could stop
losing...that must have knocked your socks off. Well, I guess I am
dating myself by that comment but I sure would have felt that way if
he told that to me. I'll be anxious for that day to come.
If you don't mind telling us what weight you started at and when you
had your surgery that would be inspiring to the rest of us. You've
encouraged us already!!!!
Take care.....Hopefully, I'll get to meet you at the Christmas
party. Congrats, Angie.

Steve H. Update

2007-09-12 11:27:35

Hello Everyone,
I thought I'd let you know I just spoke to Steve who had lap rny
surgery yesterday and Dr. Houston is his surgeon. Steve sounded
great, said he's feeling good and Dr. Houston had just seen him. I
asked him if he was enjoying that wonderful protein drink : )))
Steve's wife, Sheila, answered the phone and she was very upbeat as
things are going well. When I said who I was she immediately said, oh
I know about you and Steve would like to talk to you. That was so
nice to hear. She seems like a very sweet lady!
He said he was very appreciative for all of the prayers and good
wishes from our group. I told him he's now an official "Loser" and
welcome to the losing side.
Hope everyone is having a great evening and I am sending good
thoughts your way!

Hi everybody, Donna Mccluskey here.:)
I have a wonderful announcement to make! I went to my consult
appointment with Dr. Dyer on October 23rd. He was very nice and very
thorough in explaining all procedures involving the Gastric Bypass
Surgery. From there we went to Robins office and he checked his
surgery schedule and said you can have the 1st or the 14th and I am
thinking hes probably talking about January or February of next year.
When he said November I was so surprised!!! I have taken the 14th so
I have better time to prepare and take care of all the necessary steps
needed prior to Surgery. This is like a dream come true!!! I finally
have a chance to let the real me come out this body. I am totally
committed to making this work. I am also attending the Leadership
training class on November 11th because I want to have a group suppot
meeting place here in Manchester area. I have alreay talked with our
hospital and they have a room I can use! I have only posted one other
time here but I read the groups messages all the time. Am saying
prayer for Steve who is having surgery today. Thank you Kathy for
guiding me in posting and for you help & support. Will be attending

Not Giving Up

2007-09-10 20:27:13

Hi Everyone!
This is Faye from Hopkinsville, KY. I wanted to thank you all for
your support. I certainly am not willing to give up! Obviously, or I
would not have come to this page last night when I was feeling so
down. What a difference a day can make. I received word from my
Endocronologist's office in Nashville that she has recommended me to
have the surgery. I finally got the nerve up to call my PCP's office
and request a copy of my medical records. To say the least, they
were not happy about my request, but did agree to fax a release of
information to my work--so that I could obtain a copy. I am one step
closer. My thoughts are with the gentleman who is having his surgery
tomorrow. He must be a nervous wreck. I get that way sometimes just
thinking about the surgery.
Cathy, I looked at your before and after pics last night. You have
truly undergone an incredible transformation. I currently weigh 397--
so it was good to see someone similar to my weight have such great
success. Congratulations to all of you LOSERS!

Re: [CMC-WLS] Not Giving Up

Hey Faye!

I'm sooo glad you're not giving up! Keep fighting! Most all of us had to fight to get this surgery, one way or another. Either with their docs, or insurance, or family and friends.... It's sooooo worth it though! With me, it was the insurance company. They approved my hubby's right off, but made me jump through hoop after hoop for over 6 months. We finally decided that they were trying to avoid paying for both during the same calendar year. So, we just kept fighting. Paid off.

Pics- Thank you. And that's why I keep them up and share. It helps folks to SEE that there is help and hope for Morbid Obesity. Yes, we have very similar starting weights. If you're shorter than me, then we're even closer than you may have realized. (I'm 5'10")

Keep up the fight. We are all ANXIOUSLY waiting to welcome you to the LOSING SIDE!

want to let out a rather loud yell and tell the world I am NOT

it's become quite the humbling experience!!!
But it's hard for me to really see the weightloss when I look in the
mirror. Is that weird or what? Obviously, it's because I see myself
every day. I got my hair cut yesterday and hadn't seen my beautician
who is also a good friend since before my 3 mos. checkup, 9/8. She
said there was a huge differene in my appearance. I guess what I am
trying to say is that it's obviously much more noticeable to the
people who don't see you every day. It's sooooo exciting when you do

change in such a short time and then I'll cry happy tears.
Welllll, DEAR Cathy and Mike, hope all is well in your Tennessee
world, have a great weekend and see you soon!!! Hugggsss, Jilllll

Faye...WE CARE!!!

2007-09-09 10:59:20

Dear Faye, WE DO CARE and we are here to help YOU!
I agree with Cathy and you should contact Dr. Houston/Dyer/Olsen's
office, talk to them and find a new PCP physician who is
understanding. I know how hard it is to get things started. Kathy
H. at the drs' office has been a valuable help to many of us and is a
great lady who could get you pointed in the right direction.
I had a rather tall mountain to climb with my insurance company but I
wouldn't give up...I refused to give up. They finally paid my
initial surgery on 6/6/06 but now I am still 'battling' to get the
other bills paid correctly. You can't keep this 'ole gal'
down!!!! : )) I consider myself to be an insurance pro so if ANYONE
needs my help, just email me and I'll do what I can. I also cried
when my insurance co denied my surgery AFTER they approved it and
AFTER I had the surgery. All I could think of was...how will I pay
this huge bill as I had additional surgery with a 6 day hospital
stay? The hospital alone was $41,000. I thought about getting 10
jobs : ))) but that thought lasted a second or two. But I kept
after UHC and made them accountable for what they orginally agreed to
prior to my surgery. I forgot to mention that I also got my company
HR department involved in helping me with the mess UHC created. They
were great.
If you have ANY questions, please email me and I will try my best to
answer them. Cathy is a wonderful source of information too as I see
she already replied to your email.
I know what you mean when you send an email and it doesn't show
up....and then all of a sudden, it appears like magic...go figure!
Well, Faye, I must get ready for work...please know that I am sending
good thoughts and lots of prayers your way. Please continue to forge
on, make that call and keep coming back to us.

Re: Just Starting

2007-09-08 20:58:34

Hi Cathy,
Thank you for caring. My name is Faye and I am the person who is just
starting. I posted the message a few weeks ago, but it never did show
up--so I quit coming to this site. Anyway, I want to another PCP today
and she too was pushing the dietician. Her comment was, "You don't
need to be 150. If you could lose down to 300, that is only 100
pounds, you would feel so much better. You could lose that in a year,
maybe two. Two would be better." Why don't they understand? Once
again, I left crying and have been bummed out ever since. My cure was
to beat myself up (psychologically), go to bed as soon as I came home
from work, and not allow myself to eat dinner. My daughter woke my up
and I could not go back to sleep. So I came to visit my friend the
computer. Something made me come to this sight and what a miracle to
find my post and people who care.
Thank You...Faye

Do you have a fax machine? I can fax you a copy of the diet plus centinnial will give you a copy.

Hello Everyone!
I am a pre-op 40 year old male. I am currently working on the
greivance procedure with BCBS of TN. I have been attending the
support group meetings for the past few months and I have a few questions.
1. Does anyone have any suggestions regarding the greivance procedure?
2. What is the typical amount of time you are out of work after the
surgery?
3. Regarding eating after the surgery - what is the recommended diet?
Is there a website with meal plans or anything? Someone said something
about not eating beef or pork. I had not heard that before. Is there
something I should read?
Any help would be appreciated.
Thank You!

Re: Central line

2007-09-07 16:03:22

It was my understanding the answer is yes. But I must admit there were several advantages. The first was I did not have to be stuck again

2. It was for the most part out of my way when I wanted to get up; I could use both arms.

3. You will be sleepy enough that the line goes in easy and being the whining gal I am it was easier than I expected

4 The docs think there are less problems in the neck than in the chest.

This was an area I had to trust that they have done a bunch of the surgeries and had a lot of feed back from patients and nurses and they have concluded this is the best for us.

(Just to stay honest I still question stuff but have found Dr Dyer to be right. Please do not tell him I admitted it! He will never let me forget it)

I'm scheduled for surgery Wednesday the 25th at 7:30 AM so keep me

says full liquids. Tuesday it says clear liquids which I understand
what that is but what does Full liquids mean for Monday? Is that
different? Also do I need to avoid clear liquids like jello that have
red dye in them like strawberry or cherry jello? Probably dumb
questions but I don't want to mess up.
Thanks,

Unless I was not paying attention, which is possible, I think it took my post about the Pulaski meeting several days to show up.

RE: the meetings on 11-11-06 for facillitators and Back on Track, I have already been to two sets of these and hope to be there in Nov. also....I know I can always get new info for self and group.

Re: [CMC-WLS] Suggestions

Hey Danice!

Jerky is good. Keeps well. HIGH protein, low calorie.

Tuna (packed in WATER) in single serving packs (poptop or foil packages). Again, keeps well, high in protein, low in calorie. They also make chicken like this.

EAS Shakes for breakfast are a possibility... won't spoil if left unopened, buuuuut.... can you drink them warm?

Hope that helps!

Hey Guys,
I need some suggestions about food. I am going camping next weekend
with my 6 year old son's Cub Scout troop. We are going to be camping
for 2 nights and 2 days. I am sure that the food we will cook will not
be WLS friendly (I am only 5 months post-op), so I need some
suggestions on what kind of food that I could bring with me.
I am pretty sure there is not going to be any electrical cooling
systems, so refridgerated stuff is out.
Any suggestions would be wonderful!!!
Thanks,
Danice
