Hello Everyone....we were fortunate{??}last night to get a lot of
rain...then icey rain....then snow....then high winds last night and
now we are stuck. The interestate was closed and we were told to stay
home so we did. It's been some time since we've had weather like this
in central Illinois. I guess the good news is that it happened on
Friday.
How's everyone in TN? I don't think you get much snow so maybe you'd
like to come up here and visit!!!! We have a large supply of gloves,
hats and sweatshirts available in all sizes.
Have a good weekend....I am sending good thoughts to EACH of my CWL
family tonight!!!

Cathy,
Thanks for that. I was literally about to eat a few bites of caramel

I will have a little bite as soon as I check my e-mail!!

Thanksgiving was a challenge for me this year. Now mind you, I've
been at many functions where food was served (and good food I should
say) since my surgery in July. Those occasions really didn't tempt
me. However, Thanksgiving was a big temptation and I struggled. I
wasn't able to pinpoint why for a few days and then it hit me head
on. Let me just say that my extended family enjoys food and there was
lots of it. And they like to have desserts, sweets, snacks, all
kinds of food to graze on between meals. We were all together for 3
nights at a cabin for the holiday to get-away. My sister is a single
mom of a 2 yr old and a 1 yr old and like most little ones, they
require a lot of care/attention. I realized by the third day that
the main focus was food and little kids. If we weren't all taking
care of or helping to care of or entertain the little ones, then
someone was always eating/snacking. I tried to stay on a pretty
regular eating schedule but everyone else just threw it out the
window. I think there wasn't enough of a distraction for me and the
fact that we didn't leave there for the 3 days made it hard too.
There was nothing to look forward to as in going somewhere to divert
my attention. A time frame/schedule to be on, etc. Does that make
sense? We were all just kicking back enjoying the break but I
realized I do need some structure, at least by the 3rd day! LOL! I
survived and stayed on program but this was probably the hardest
struggle I've had since surgery.
How did you all make it over the Thanksgiving holiday?

Hi guys, I haven't posted in some time. My life has taken some major turns and most of them have been challenging . I FORGOT about my needs and focused on everyone and everything around me. The result is a major regain of weight. I told myself I would NEVER EVER go back into the 200s...yet today I am at 202.....I am taking the world back and doing what I need to do for me. NO MORE EXCUSES! I went to a support group tonight for the first time in about 4 months. I have a plan and I am sticking to it. I have committed myself to go to the Christmas party AND I have scheduled an appointment with Dr. Dyer...I skipped my year appointment in October BECAUSE (and I am admitting it) I was not doing well...I was not eating right.....I was making excuses......I had forgotten about ME!

Jill,
Glad to know you're still with us and nothing major is going on.
Believe me, I definitely understand being in a funk! Glad to hear
that you enjoyed your little grandaughters over Thanksgiving.
Wouldn't it be great to have Thanksgiving at least twice a year?
LOL! Gosh, it just goes by so fast. My Dad passed away last year on
Thanksgiving day (cancer) and was at home (he was only 65). So this
year we felt it would be a hard one to have Thanksgiving at my mom's.
We attempted to rent a cabin in Gatlinburg but the prices were
astronomical and they required a 4 night stay and we could only do 3
nights. So we were able to find a really nice cabin to accomodate all
14 of us in Mentone, AL which is basically on the AL side of Lookout
Mountain (just outside of Chattanooga). It was so nice and so good to
get away for a few days. Didn't even go shopping for minute over the
whole break. And...there was no internet service at the cabin. Of
course our two teenagers weren't very happy over that at first but
they adjusted and seemed to enjoy themselves as well.
One definitely nice moment was that my s-i-l is attempting to start
her own photography business and invested in a really nice and
expensive digital camera. So we were her practice family. LOL! It's
been almost 10 yrs since we've had family pictures made and this was
the first in a long, long time that I didn't mind to have my pix
taken. We all wore jeans and black shirts. There was a wooden fence
at the driveway leading to the cabin so that was our prop. They
really turned out pretty good and I'm planning on putting some in
Christmas cards so people can see the difference in the new me (and
how fast our two teenagers are growing).
Sorry to ramble.
Have a good week!

Hello to EVERYONE,
I must toot my own horn ........ I have reached GOAL!
In less than a year I have gone from a big oversized couch potatoe to
a "babe" @ my age that is saying something. Have struggled with the yo-
yo syndrome for the 24 yts I have been married ...... by husband says I
am back being the person he married. I smile more, work with the
horses, want to go out in public more, not afraid talk to strangers,
and need my drivers license picture retaken :-}.
How you feel about yourself is how others will respond.
Funny story/ we were in Wal-Mart last week and we had gone our separate
ways inside, when my husband notices a rather attractive female, from
the back view, when she turned around he started to laugh, guess who
that person was .......
you got it ...... it was me. Now some of you may take that as a "man
thing" but I took it as a compliment.
Dr Dyer was my surgeon and I have not regreted the decision I made NOT
once.
If I can do this anyone can..........

Can anyone tell me if there is a need to be concerned about the amount
of sodium in foods. I stay on the plan as directed by my Dr. and the
dietician. But since I have started reading labels more carefully I've
noticed that the sodium content in some foods is high. I was shocked
at three oz of Star Kist water packed tuna has 310 mg of sodium. Is
this something to be concerned about?

Dear Bonitaaaaaa,
Thank you for noticing that I've been low-keyed lately. I haven't
felt good and I've been taking care of myself. BUT IT WAS SOOOO
SWEET OF YOU TO THINK ABOUT ME....I really mean that.
I mentioned awhile back that I was in a 'funk' so I thought it was
best that I just be by myself. We had my little 'twirlers' for a
long weekend. That's what I call my 2 sweet grandaughters, Madison &
Brooke. They are the best medicine a grandma could ask for!!!
Please know that during this time I've cheered for EACH OF YOU and I
continue to wish everyone nothing but wonderful, happy, sweet moments
in your new life! What a great life it is!!!!!!!
At work today, I passed my old boss in the hallway and he
said...hello thin person...of course I just beamed and thanked him
for noticing...that was a WOW moment for me....still is!!!
I am flying to Nashville on 12/14 for my 6 mos. appt. on Friday,
12/15...then the exciting part...the party when I will get to meet
the wonderful people who we've been emailing during the past 6 mos.
Take care...again, thanks Bonita for being concerned...it means a lot
to me. SEE YOU SOON!

After surgery it is very difficult to reach to do the paperwork after certain bodily functions. because of this It was highly recommended to bring a wooden spoon to wrap *tp* around to create the reach required.... :) I never used this method and wouldn't admit it if I did......... but if I were to have used it......... all here could rest assured that the spoon in question would no longer be in my kitchen drawer.

You deserve something that fits well. Find someone who can do some
sewing and have them fitted even if you have to buy a larger size and
have it cut down to fit. Alterations are not that expensive, just
time consuming.
Hope this helps.
Sandi, first off congrats on losing the weight that you have lost this far; that is an accomplishment all in itself. Next I want to tell you from what I have heard from others who are further out than I am is that the way you lose the weight changes, you may lose in one area then another area, so it may seem strange that you have gotten smaller in one area, but not another. Also, remember that we are so used to seeing ourselves as big & that image will take a LONG time to go away; even when others are seeing that we are shrinking. Just remember, that you are doing very good with the tool that you now have to help you with the weight loss and the weight didn't comeon over time so it is going to take some time for it to come off, but you are on your way to getting to where you want to be, try not to let the shopping experience get you down. We all love you & want to do anything we can to help you through any tough times you may be going through or emotions that you may be
feeling.

on were beautiful and my husband was willing to buy anything and
everything I wanted, but nothing seemed to fit. Will my stomach and
hips ever get smaller? I was so aggrivated. I was tempted to eat, but
didn't. Of course I was not not hungry just disgusted with myself for
going through all this and still not being able to find clothes that
fit properly.
If anyone can give me any advice I sure would appreciate it.
Blessings
Sandi

-Hey Steve,
That is 33 pounds in less than 1 month! Be patient. Your body is
getting used to your new food intake and is trying to make
adjustments.
The loss will start up again. Keep doing the plan you were given.
I am proud of your progress. Looking forwarf to seeing you in the

I guess that you're right that some people just don't admit that they have issues with food. I'm just now figuring out that there's a difference between true hunger and "head hunger". How do you get through your issues with food ? How do you deal with your emotions, not eating?
You all are so helpful. It makes me feel so good to have such wonderful people to ask questions who will give me honest answers! Thanks!
Love, Janie
Hmmm, only thing that I Can think of is to ask that person to delete them for you...if they haven't already.

Hello Janie,
Just to try to help answer your question a little; as far as the weight loss goes, one...it is very different for everyone. For instance, guys lose the weight a lot faster than women do; so to ME it is very hard for someone to lose a certain amount of weight within a certain period of time. Even Dr. Dyer said at the meeting on Tuesday that everyone will reach a plateau and there really isn't much that you can do about it. One day you can be on the scale week after week and the weight never change & then two months later when you step on the scale you have lost 20 pounds. I know it seems so unreal, but I have seen it with my own eyes. As far as "boosting" your weight loss, I asked Dr. Dyer if there was anything somone could do to boost it, such as going on the liquid part of the diet for a few days & he said that, that really wouldn't do too much, it is basically a waiting game. I hope this helps to answer your question & I am sure that others will have some
add'tl. info. for you.

My surgery went really well and I have not had the first probllem. I

We are excited and very happy for you....things will start
progressing quickly. We will cheer you on and help whenever we

As a "future loser", I'm trying to figure out how that you "push your
weightloss". Sandy had mentioned that Dr. Dyer wanted to see her lose
16lbs the next month. How do you do that? Increase your protein?
Increase your exercise? At this point I can't imagine losing 16lbs in 2
months much less a month, but I know with WLS everything we ever
learned about weightloss changes. I realize that eating less and
exercising more is pretty much still the same. Please help me to
understand this. I'm confused!
Thx,
Janie

This is normal. You're sort of in "detox" right now. I suspect the hunger you feel at night is the evil head-hunger and not actual physical hunger. But know that doesn't make it any easier.

I'm new to the group, but need some support.I guess that I just
need to talk to others who might have had similiar issues, which is
what I suppose this is for.I remembered seeing this group in a
search I did early on in my research for surgery.
I had my surgery on Oct 23,so I'm 17 days post-op.I've done very
well with the recovery;just a few minor problems that prompted a
call & an extra visit to the doc (Dr.Olsen).However,I've some
problems that have come up,emotional issues,I guess. My family is not
much help, however they have generally been helpful in other areas.
I have 2 more days on full liquids;my mom went to the grocery for
me & bought my real food for my upcoming blended diet stage. It looks
so good.I found myself organizing the lovely little cans of tuna,
veggies, etc. It was like "playing with my food".Which leads to an
issue that I'm having.I'll just pick one to talk about;don't want to
be so long that no one will have time to read it.Basically,I'm
struggling with wanting to eat.I realize that it's only 2 more days
until blended food, but I'm going crazy with this liquid only.It
brings back memories of OptiFast, what a nightmare that was!
Anyway,my pre-surgical favorite time to eat was at night. My
husband goes to work at 4am,so he's always early to bed.My
children,now 14 & 12 actually stay up longer than him now.But
still, being a night person all my life,I've always been up later.I
actually did get hungry around 10am & would start eating.I could go
all day on very little;just enough to take my meds & really I didn't
care about food during the day before my surgery.
Now that I'm feeling a little better,I find myself actually
getting hungry at night again. It's no wonder since I haven't eaten
in almost 20 days if you count the 2 days of colon cleaning (wasn't
that just a fun experience!).So,I find myself hungry, unable to sleep
& unable to do anything about it except more liquids.I first tried
the liquid Tylenol PM,which was a great help at first to get off the
pain med at bedtime. Now it helps with the pain, but doesn't help me
sleep.I've been taking an Ambien but no luck falling asleep. The food
issue is stronger than the sleeping pill.Last night,I was asleep at
1am,the night before, however,it was 4am.This has been going on about
5-6 days.I'm exhasted during the day & very weak feeling. This
morning I fell trying to get out of bed even though I had ahold of
my walker & it had the brake on.
Anyone had a problem like this? What did you do?During the
day, there are a lot of distractions to take my mind off it.But in
the middle of the night, I can't just call up a friend.I watch
TV,read & I'm working a 1000 piece puzzle,it's not the same (as
food, that is).For some reason, maybe I read it or the doc told me,I
didn't expect to feel hungry yet. So,I'm a little disappointed about
that part.
To late to make it short. Thanks for reading my post & for any
suggestions you have.

I have a date Nov 6th. I do not know yet if it will be a Lap Band
or Lap RNY. I know so unreal. I have read about both and planning
for both. I have a EGD scheduled for Oct 31 and I will find out for
sure what I am having. This has been a God thing from day one. I
have been checking on this for years. No insurance coverage so it
was a dream. Last year I lost 35 lbs and held it for about 4
months. Then it started to creep back. Saturday October 14 I went
to a seminar and met Dr Houston. The nex day I talked to a friend at
church who had gone to Vanderbilt for her surgery. She never
mentioned her Dr. but did mention Dr Houston. Confirmation! My
husband and I had a long talk that night and he said if this is what
I want to do he understood and would support me all the way. Even
having to self-pay, it would be my Anniversary present. I faxed my
paper work in to Centennial at Midnight. Before 9 the next morning
I had an appointment with Dr Houston for the 18th. Yep! God works
in mysterious ways. The day of the appointment I met Holly!!!! I
knew her from years ago, we went to the same church and had even
worked on a vacation bible school together. Thank you God,
everything felt so comfortable after that. She scheduled an Upper
GI and a return appointment for Oct 27. Well, my upper GI was
inconclusive and I needed a EGD to confirm a Hernia. While Holly
was making the appointment for that she said she had someone to
cancel a surgery on the 6th and she needed to fill Dr Houston's
schedule. Did I want to go ahead and schedule? Of COURSE. So here
I am.

husband goes to work at 4am,so he's always early to bed.My
children,now 14 & 12 actually stay up longer than him now.But
still, being a night person all my life,I've always been up later.I
actually did get hungry around 10am & would start eating.I could go
all day on very little;just enough to take my meds & really I didn't
care about food during the day before my surgery.

Of COURSE. So here
I am.
I am new to the program. I just attended a seminar and filled out all
my paperwork for my insurance and got that faxed in. So I am anxiously
awaiting my next step. I just would like to say "thank you" to all of
you that are leaving notes on here for people like me that are just
beginning, so we can see kinda what lays ahead for us. :) Thanks, Tammy
Did anyone gain weight prior to waiting on surgery?I have.Leslie Carter
Hey Y'all (I used Y'all just for you Jill):
We've been talking about not seeing ourselves as we are, about not noticing changes. Well, I'm guilty! I realized, just today, something that's been true for a while now. I was at work, walking down the hall... when suddenly I noticed, for the first time in decades.... that my thighs do not touch/rub each other when I walk. I was so surprised when I realized this that I stopped walking. Just stood there wondering, "how long has this been going on?" And I realized... it's been like this for weeks.
Talk about dense and not seeing things!!! I'm 23 months out. I still do it.
Guys and gals, this is a LONG journey we're on. None of this happens overnight. Let's all stick together for the long-haul, Okay? If you've had a set back, don't be embarassed, don't hide... stay. We all love you and support you.

I can't see any of the pictures Cathy. :(, I hope they aren't the
pictures of those really "skin & bones" models, they are so sickning
to look at.
Thank you so very much Cathy, I will see you at the meeting on the
Sat. after Thanksgiving!
Okay, I hope everybody understands the point I'm making....
A lot of us still have issues... a lot of us have trouble seeing ourselves as thinner as we lose the weight.
We ALL (myself included) just have to remember to love ourselves for our insides.
Below are some pics of some ladies who obviously are having an image problem... they probably think they are fat, when they look soooo unhealthy.
After I viewed these, I decided that I think I'll take me just as I am, thank you.
Check this out.

Well!!! After seeing these I think I'll keep my "fat." Sad, isn't it? These ladies are too thin... that's not pretty, it's just pitiful.

Jill,
Thank you so much for the encouragement! I have to admit, I can't believe that the holidays are around the corner and January will be here before I know it. I am hoping to get an approval shortly after my papers are turned in and then set a date! I also realize though that things take time. I'm so happy for you and everyone who are doing so well. You all are an inspiration to me!
Love
Janie

I stopped by the hospital after the meeting tonight to see how Donna
was feeling, I know that someone had posted that she was in & out of it
earlier. Well when I got to her room I looked in & she was fast
asleep. She looked comfortable; as comfy as one can get after having
surgery and there is no telling if she was in alot of pain.
