Hey guys just wanted to report that unfortunately I did not make my
goal I had set for myself by today. I wanted to lose 5 lbs. before the
New Year started. I lost 2, but as CS has told me many a time any loss
is better than no loss to I will keep trying. I will be at 250 before I
know it.

Stinky!!--Mary

2008-03-31 07:12:08

OMG that was too funny Linda. Thank you girlfriend you don't know how I needed
that right now. Our receptionist here at work just lost her mom about an hour
ago and I haven't been able to stop crying. The poor lady was suffering and was
in hospice the last week or so. Now her battle is over and she is with the good
Lord, but it's still difficult. You must have sensed I needed a little laughter
just about now. Funny how things work. Take care.

If so please share with me.

Good thing there wasn't that much gas inside...I keep thinking of
those guy's at parties that would bend over and put the lighter at
their butt...then blow a big one out! Gosh talk about dragon

Hey Mary,
I enjoy also reading as other's reach goals or smilestones! It

recall those lower weights and where I was during that time frame!
I just wish my Dad could have seen me conquer this weight! I guess

Hey all, I am always looking for new ways to find protein....In the tuna aisle today found some clams....in those cute little pouches that they make now. Chicken of the Sea brand. The clams for 1 pouch are 40 calories and 7 proteins. AND very tasty.

Re: [Gastric_Bypass_Family] Kim

2008-03-29 08:20:34

Tina and Kim,
You both look AWESOME!!!!!! I can't wait to have my
surgery so I can join you on the "losing side"! You both have accomplished great
hurdles and should be proud!
I have a question though, everyone I have talked to is of course trying telling
you their horrific stories about how bad the first 6 weeks are, is it REALLY
true? Its kinda like when you first tell someone you are pregnant, they cannot
wait to tell you how awful your labor is going to be or their bad expriences!
My surgery is March 8TH, I am NOT going to back out but I am getting nervous
about hearing this and someone even told me that right after the surgery " you
will wish and wonder why you even decided to do it". I am sure it is like any
surgery, very painful at first but after the intial week- 10 days, it gets
better. I recently had my knee scoped and for the first 10 days it was pretty
tough but I think i did more than I should right away, too! Then it was like
night and day difference and started healing pretty quickly!
Well Congratulations and keep up the good job! Thanks for letting me pour my
anxiety out here to you all! I truly am soooooo happy to find this web site, I
don't understand why people would refuse useful information.
Also, that Jenna person, I am soooo sorry you feel the way you do, it is not
disgraceful to tak about the surgery. I am sure there are a few people who might
not be here if it wasn't for this surgery because of health issues, including
myself. I thank GOD everyday that he has maade this possible for me to go thru
and just pray that I will come out fine! Germaine in Michigan

What a surprise I got this morning!!--Tina

2008-03-28 10:44:04

again ROTFLMBO!!!
Linda Lou <iamllu@...
Hey Tina,
At first and 298 Oct. 2003 I didn't feel I'd ever be healthy or be
skinny ever again. I was at my lowest and feeling so ugly and
worthless. I was put on my husband's insurance the following
January and promptly started doing research again on having this
surgery. Seemed after I had made the decision things just went so
smoothly and I knew it was meant to be. Those goals me might place
too low but I feel with the grace of God we can do all we are meant
too and be healthy also.
I was also glad they picked me as one of the moderator's now I need
some training...LOL!!! Yep and getting those dang pic's loaded
also...LOL!!!
Gosh I am a sweet junkie so I had to find something to make my old
baking recipes fly for me now! I plan on doing some this week as I
continue to pack and prepare for our move back home to Texas! Got
to keep my strength up..right?!
Oh yeah, just wanted to thank you so much for leaving your back door
open cause it made your cold weather come down to freeze me out here
in ol' Alabama..LOL!!! Seriously its freezing here and will be down
in the lower teens tonight! And to think I passed up those nice
electric blankets the other day and they are all gone now. Boohoo!!!

Linda Lou <iamllu@...
Hey Presh,
Thanks lots...seriously though I have been at the 298 mark before I
lost a little while waiting for my appointment with the surgeon.
Actually the fosterkids wore it off of me...LOL!!! You'll be there
before you know it! Just remember that when those plateau's hit you
to up that protein and drink more water. It does work!! Peach on
the post-op board introduced me to the protein train and I live it
now. Happy dance...I did it all around my husband when he came
home!!! Silly goose just laughed and asked what I was on! I was on
a protein high, of course!

Hi Diane,

I had a very bad case of Diverticulitis....was very sick. I was admitted 12/21 - 12/30. Needless to say it wasn't a very pleasant holiday. Had to have TPN...will never do that again. If I have another recurrence within a year will probably have to have surgery to remove sigmoid colon, a section somewhere between 12 - 14 ??? inches. Gastroenterologist said you don't need that anyway??

So glad to be home again.

Have a great NEW YEAR both you & Richard.

Here is a wonderful protein shake to invest in, see website!
Don't give up! It does get better.
I had open gastic bypass surgery June 2002 - 5'6" weighed 370 lbs, had
peniculectomy Sept 2003, weight today 160 lbs. At first large hair loss, weight
loss rapid at first then plateau, then rapid again, now plateau. Just be
patient, make sure not doing weights too heavy for muscle build more light
excercise to increase heart rate and increase weight loss. Keep the faith!

Hey Kim,
I saw your post last night and I went to check out your pics and
DANG!! I know that the other ones you had posted still were a big
difference but that before pic is WHEW!! You don't look happy and it
looks like you are uncmfortable. I know when I took my Christmas
pics into school this year and showed my boss the pic from last year
and then this year, she said ,Tina, how did you do it. You look like
you are in pain sitting on the fireplace. I guess I never really
knew any different until now. Then it was 10 pounds here, 5 pounds
there. Now it's a big difference and I hope to be able to stay
successful. I know it must be a big challenge for those of you who
are so far out and out of the "honeymoon" phase. That is why I have
recommitted myself this week to get back on track and cut out
those "sugarfree" candies and pretzels. They are going to be my
downfall yet. I just want you to know that i think you look truely
AMAZING!! And as my hubby tells me, people still loved me when I was
that weight, they never saw me as anything different but now, WATCH
OUT!!....hehe. My new song for him he told me is One Hot Mama...
I'll take it. Well, have a great day and thank you for always
sharing your experiences and helping us "under a year" newbies!!!

Linda,
My name is Fran and I am scheduled to have surgery with Dr. Abkins on March 7th,
Where in N. J. do you live?
I am sorry to hear that you are having some difficulty. I have not been through
the surgery so I really can't offer you much but support. I have heard people
on this site talk about the "protein train" being used to jolt their body into
losing mode again. I know if you ask they will explain it. Maybe you already
know of it.
I just wondered if you could give me any suggestions or ideas of what I will
need when I go to the hospital and for when I come home. It's always nice to
meet someone who has had Dr. Abkin. Did you like him?

Welcome Rosa, I had my surgery August 11, 2004 I started losing my
hair about mid-December two weeks ago it stopped and my hairdresser
said she could see new growth. If you are at a stand still try the
protein train, that is 3 days of protein shakes and then gradually
adding food back into your diet (protein) like when you first had
your surgery. Hope this helps.

Re: leg cramps

2008-03-19 20:28:33

Linda, you might be having the cramps from lack of potassium. Try
eating a banana every day and see if that helps. I get really bad
leg cramps also but mine are hereditary as both my dad and granddad
got cramps so bad, they cry. My dad's is often from salt
deficiency..he works hard and sweats and drinks tons of water. You
might also try some of the sports drinks if you can find one that
isn't too high in sugar and you can tolerate. Other than that, just
learn to live with it...and good luck, I feel your pain.

Talked to Donna M.

2008-03-18 08:18:20

Hey Groupies.....Talked to Donna this evening and boy,was she estatic, they weighed her today and she was such a looooser a wopping 46 lbs gone!!!!!!!!!!!! Yes ya'll.....I could feel her grinning from ear to ear through the phone. I told her that I was gonna post it on here and she told me too and to tell you all that she felt like she could barely lay there in the bed. She felt like she ought to be up running, screaming it up and down the hall, " I lost 46 lbs, I lost 46 lbs". I don't blame her at all I would probably be doing the same thing myself, she is really doing a great job with her weight loss. Anyway, she said to tell everyone that she gets to come home tomorrow and that she will be posting as soon as she possibly can.

Hugs to all from Shelbyville,

Thanks Bonita,
We are hanging in here, doing quite well actually.
This was the second time in our 12 yrs. that we didn't
go out and do something special on our anniversary. It
was so nice to be able to spend it at home and not
have it spoiled by the indeciveness of trying to
decide where to go and what to eat. We really enjoyed
our day.
Robert is feeling much better, getting in his protein,
and liquids are still a challenge for him some days,
but overall he is doing great.
Cubby, seems to be feeling better. He will go to the
puppy hopital after the first and have his blood sugar
levels checked again. They will then start him on
insulin. He will be getting two shots a day anywhere
from 2 to 4 units each time. The Vet is going to teach
me how to give him the shots. I dread that I can't
stand the thoughts of sticking him.
HAPPY NEW YEAR TO YOU AND YOUR BEAUTIFUL FAMILY.

sorry you feel that way. I tell everyone who asks me about it

Kim, thank you for the info. As I mentioned to Linda B., I'll check it

Hi Diane,
Welcome to the group! I have to be at the hospital at
5:15 a.m. My surgery is scheduled for 7:45a.m. and
will last 5-6 hours. I'm scared and anxious also.
However, yesterday when I met with my PCP, she was
very good about calming some of my anxieties. My
husband has been great as well. So who is your doctor
and where are you having your surgery and what kind?

Re: Stinky!!

2008-03-15 15:04:50

Hi Nancy,
What you are experiencing is somewhat common but also you are
burning fat and possibly eating too many carbs. Might check on
that. I haven't experienced it to the extent of gas persay except
after eating too many beans in one day. Your BM's...you might want
to check about getting some charcoal pills at your healthfood
store. Should help you. I'll look around and see if I can help you
further with additional information. By the way, your doing
excellent on your weightloss!

Re: protein

Blue Bunny yogurt! It's a good source when you haven't been able to
get all of your protein in for the day. And this particular kind
(with a purple foil lid) is different from regular yogurts as it's
kind of a fluffy consistency. I just found it a couple of weeks ago.

I just bought the tropicana pink grapefruit one tonight at walmart, I had never heard of it before or seen it. I was eager to try it because I have been wanting some pink grapefruit juice; it was okay, but not the worst thing I have had. I found it in the plastic bottles. Try walmart, maybe they will have it sometime soon.

Re: [Gastric_Bypass_Family] Stinky!!

Very stinky gas and BM's are normal. I use internal deodorant you can
get online at
_Nutritional Supplements for Gastric Bypass Bariatric Surgery Patients from
Bariatric Advantage_ (http://bariatricadvantage.com/)
I order the strawberry flavored iron chewable very yummy
also i get the calcium citrate cinnamon flavored lazengers chewable and its
like having candies that are good for you. I also am trying the devrom
chewable bismuth internal deodorant pills for the stinky gas and bm's lol
Then from Wal Mart i get Flinstones complete and take 2 a day.
All are chewable and are like getting little candies during the day.
Im a chocolate lover but i like the cinnamon calcium better then the
chocolate.
The pills may be more expensive then others but i can tell you the chewable
are great and taste good too. I have had no problems with my calcium or
iron since being on the pills. I started right after my operation 4/27/04
and
am still taking them even if i can swallow pills now because its my candy
fix for the day. And why mess with a good thing. My dietitian recommended
the pills.
Good luck

sensitive subject but who else can we ask but each other?. Please let me know.
It is getting embarassing when my family all keep running from the room I'm

Tropicana Sugar Free Orange Drink

2008-03-13 06:46:54

I tasted this product when I was in TN at my friend, Carolyn's home.
It is delicious...NOT carbonated and as I said sugar free. BUT the
problem I found is that I cannot locate it here in Illinois. I've
checked many stores and they don't carry it or they've stopped making
it. I wanted to pass this on to you as you so you could taste it if
you can find it!
It comes in a soda type can just like the Tropicana Lemonade...12 cans
to a carton.
Just thought I'd pass this on to you...let me know what you think if
you chose to look for it.

Hello,
I heard you are a new moderator? Can you please remove me from this list, I
joined to ask other prior patients if they had certain problems that I was
experiencing. Other than that I dont think about my surgery everyday of my life.
I am not proud of the fact that I had the surgery. I do enjoy the weight loss
but the way I got it is not somthing I talk about to often or even like to bring
up. I am not proud of the fact that I could not do it on my own, so seeing these
new emails every day do not help me forget that. So if you know of a way that I
can be taken off this mailing list, I would greatly appreciate it. thank you and
good luck to everyone that is considering I wish you all the best.

Okay, here's a funny for ya! We had a Christmas Eve candle light service at church (11:00 pm) on Sun. night. There's a rather well-to-do lady that always looks like she just walked out of a department store (hair always in placed and fresh looking, always nice close, nice makeup, etc.) She's a late 50's early 60's age lady and very pretty and attractive. Our family was kind of sitting in the middle of the pew as we arrived a little early. She and her dh came in and sat down on my dh's left side (I was on his right). This lady when she first sat down leaned over and told me how pretty I was looking. Then she instantly realized what she'd said and tried to dig herself out of the hole by saying "well, not that you haven't always been pretty..." And we all just had a good laugh at her choice of words, etc. Didn't bother me one bit, just thought it was funny!
Hope you all are having a good week. My mom is visiting us for a few days so we've enjoyed doing some fun things together.

Thanks Tammy. I got off track from about July to October. BUT back now. I know what is important in MY life and have decided to act "as if" ....Since you brought up the retreat, I was talking to Cathy S. and decided to pose this question.....I would like ALL to vote on this. If we have a well known name like Barbara Thompson the fee is $300 without any corporate support...or we could do a weekend retreat for $100 registration and the 2 nights motel.....food would be included in the $100 and all our speakers who would be knowledgeable people in different areas of WLS.......So let me hear a vote: well-known speaker and more money or great people from our area and $100.......

Congratulations! So it is a go huh? We will keep you in our

information about what you need to buy B4 you have your surgery and vitamins,
too. I am anxious to getgoing and get this behind me, I am sooooo thankful for
this website and extended family support. I really love to read all the emails
and get all the helpful suggestions.
Last night at the class I noticed on the paper they give you about geting sick
1-3 weeks B4 your surgery, I told the nurse how I am pretty prone to getting
sinus infections ans sore throats but they said not to worry. They that they
would do everything rthey could to prevent my surgery from being cancelled, that
helped put my mind at ease somewhat.
Well Good Luck and I will keep you in my prayers, GOD WILL see you thru!

Re: [CMC-WLS] Donna M.

2008-03-05 12:50:48

Hi Sandi,

I talked to Donna tonight too!! She does seem like she is feeling a little better and was laughing some. She said that they did bring her the "chocolate protein shake" and she, so far, was able to keep it down. But said that her surgery had nothing to do with her illness said that it was diverticulitis or something like that. Poor thing...I felt fo sorry for her. She didn't have any idea when she'd be coming home, so I told her that I would be checking in on her again soon as I'm sure some of you will too.

Hugs from Shelbyville,

Re: [CMC-WLS] recipes

2008-03-04 15:00:17

I would like to thank Julie for sending these... and to remind everybody that some of these recipes have things (Like crackers) in them that we are not supposed to eat until goal. Just keep that in mind. If you are very early in your program, don't look at these recipes at all. Example, 4 were contributed by me, but only 2 of them are 1st year friendly.

Hey K .Hungerford

2008-03-04 03:18:58

I got your email a few days before Christmas. I wrote you a detailed message on my regular email....the one that you had used, then my computer would not send it....guess it knew I was trying to send a personal email on my work computer!

I am still recovering from the wreck....have PT 2-3 times a week and now have a traction machine at home but am scared to death to use it. I have lost total of 25 pounds since the Sept retreat at the EFrye Center, and the Oct. 2 wreck. My healing has been hindered due to lots of overtime at work. Until the last few days, I have literally gotten up, gone to work, then come home, took pain meds, went to bed, then got up and started all over again.

Having 5 days off has helped me. back to work tomorrow.

Will be in Nashville the 16th...bringing a friend up who is having plastic surgery. You met her at our Pulaski meeting. She had her gb surgery at Baptist. Hope to see you while I am up there, and may want to check out the closthes closet.

Starting a new position first of year where all I will be doing is long term care Medicaid cases...working with the patients, their families and care givers to determine eligibility, and maintain a caseload for annual reviews. I am so excited. THis is my passion. We are suppose to get laptops, so that I can go into the nursing home or wherever is most convenient for the family. I will be working out of two counties and will be available to work in all the mid TN counties except Davidson, which is in a different district all its own).

You know I love you and it was so good to hear your voice on my answering machinc!!!!!

Happy New Year!

I live in Louisville now BUT do miss Chuck, Angie, and Wanda. They made our support group really good.....all are truly motivational people.
Goodness, everytime I look up it's another person from Hoptown, KY! It's my home and I miss it terribly. Chuck and Angie, I see you all are from Hoptown. Wanda and Julie are from Hoptown. I'm not sure if I know any of you but I'm thrilled to know that some of you guys are Hopkinsvillians! I lived there for 36 yrs and worked at the hospital for 18 of those years! My parents are both gone but my inlaws and lots of friends are still there! We moved to Gallatin, TN in 1999. My husband worked at TV-43 for several years. My inlaws owned Hopkinsville Tile Co until they sold it a couple of years ago. Anyway,
I will stop rambling! Good to meet anyone from Hoptown!

Good call Cathy! In the case of the RNY, losing that last 16 lbs by January shouldn't be an issue, especailly when you stay righteous to the diet! I am still amazed at how much I lost in the first 6-8 months. I went from 506 on Aug 20, 2005 to 372 on Dec 29, 2005 to 324 on March 24, 2006. As of right now, not being very righteous to the diet (Hope Dr H and Jill don't monitor these messages), I a at 265, from 506, just 15 months ago. My wife, Angie, has gone from wearing size 30 clothes, to having to take back her new jeans, size 10, because they are little baggy. She is more committed than I am to the diet, but I work out more, so we even out (in my simple mind). HAVE FAITH, STAY TRUE TO THE PROGRAM, AND CONTINUE TO LISTEN TO THIS GREAT BUNCH OF LOSERS! We have been down the road, and understand the frustrations, trepidations, and other 'ations of this process. This is a journey and an experience, not simply a destination. You have to continually work and train yourself to
continue to be successful. Being part of this great group of people to voice your concerns with is the way to make things stay on track!

Merry Christmas to all my CMC-WLS friends

2008-03-01 19:41:19

A HUGE Merry Christmas back to you Bonita. We had such a blessing at church today. Jesus is TRULY the reason for the season. Our youth choir, about 150-200 high school students, led worship....so upbeat and fulfilling.

Just wanted to take a quick minute and wish all of my WLS friends a
Merry Christmas and as Dr. Frye says "live in the present." Make it a
good one! And truly remember that Jesus is the Reason for the Season.
Sending warm thoughts and hugs your way tonight!

Re: [CMC-WLS] Twas the Night Before Christmas......

2008-03-01 15:55:00

Merry Christmas to all...We had our Christmas dinner today and family time too. It was great. AND best of all, I ate turkey and deviled eggs and left the rest of the stuff alone.
My wonderful (I can say that today) husband found one of my WLS cookbooks and surprised with me a dessert from the book Flan with sugar free raspberry sauce...I didn't miss the pies at all and I had 73 calories, 7 proteins, and 9 carbs in a dessert. Not a bad day all around.

Hope everyone else has a nice Christmas.

jyllyann1 <jyllyann@...

To my DEAR WL Friends....I finished wrapping the last present and had
a little talk with my patient, dear Jim. He's feeling bad that he
can't do anything because of that darn fractured hip. I just simply
told him...don't worry, I'll 'let' you do EVERYTHING when you get
back on your two feet : - )) Now wasn't that sweet of me?!
I wish each and every one of you a most Blessed Christmas.
To our friends who haven't had your surgery, we will be there to
support you each step of the way! Keep posting and asking questions.
To our friends who have started their journey, it's just been nothing
short of wonderful to walk along side of you via emails, holding your
hand, caring and watching you 'shrink' before our eyes!!!
I was in a store today and saw a woman I worked with years ago....she
stopped me and said, wow...you look great. I simply said thanks and
we then talked about how things are going for us.
It's interesting as I know I lost weight but hard to STILL accept
compliments....Hmmmmmmmmm I'd better work on that.
Now I know Santa will be good to all of you...whether it's a present,
a hug, a wowwwww moment and/or being with family and friends.
Happy Birthday, Jesus!
Love to all,
Jillllll
